Silly to say this but one of the best parts of living on campus for me was decorating my dorm room. I remember watching “dorm haul” and “dorm room tour” videos on youtube relentlessly during summer time before starting my first year. I have always admired the concept of interior designing, the process of making or creating a space for oneself. Space affects our everyday life — the way we focus, the way we eat, the way we communicate, and the way we feel. If your surrounding is clean, beautiful, cozy, or whatever you would like it to be, it will inspire you. A messy or a dirty room can cause harm to your well-being as it can negatively affect your mood. Although I am aware that a “space” is a different phenomenon for different kinds of people, a good number of people enjoy living in a homey place. If you are the kind of a person who enjoys the messy room and feels productive in such environment, kudos to you! We are all different people with different preferences, that’s what makes us unique right?
If you are someone who does enjoy creating your own “homey” and comfortable space, be it inside your house or a college dorm, here, I share some of the tips on how to create such space, of course, on a budget.
- Wall Decors
Adding wall decors is a simple way to prettify your dorm room. You can buy canvases and cork boards at a cheap price from Walmart and beautify them according to your preference. Personally, I like to pin pictures of my loved ones and other miscellaneous things on the corkboard and as for the canvas, I either paint or sketch on it. Tapestries are a good and very easy way to decor walls.
2. Patterned Bed Sheets or Comforter
Since we are on a budget, we cannot buy a lot of room accessories to decor our place. That is when a patterned bed sheet/ comforter comes in handy. It gives a texture to the room and acts as a decorative piece. There are plenty of patterned bedsheets in the market, just be wise to pick an affordable one.
3. A beautiful and Neat Table
Studying in a motivational space can inspire one to be productive so, adding a few inspirational quotes and words of wisdom in your room is a good idea. Personally, I like to print as well as hand-write some quotes and pin them on the attached cork board that comes with the study table. Adding plants to your room creates a healthy environment, and what a good place to put it on the table to get fresh air while working/studying. Plants do not cost a fortune and neither does printing hence, they are reliable.
4. Tapestry, nets, and Christmas lights (as shown in the first picture) are other few ways to decor your room.
Hope you enjoyed this post and please feel free to comment how you like to decor your room 🙂
